A short introduction into lace manufacturing

Since over 60 years CHANTY manufactures lace in Roedermark, Hesse, Germany in the CHANTY manufacturing center -All the while adhering to one of the strictest environmental & social guidelines & regulations.

  • Person choosing lace designs and matching colors with inspiration.jpg

    Step 1

Selecting new lace designs. This means compiling inspirational pictures, texts, ideas, etc. and choosing colors that just fit right. An innate knowledge of fashion history & development - in fashion & other topics around the world - is very important for choosing what will become popular in the future.

  • Person checking yarns in CHANTY production hall.JPG

    Step 2

Knotting the yarns and prepping the machine for production of the chosen Designs in our CHANTY Manufacturing center in DE. Depending on design, over 3'000 threads need to manually be guided into the corresponding needles. Whether the planned lace design width is 1 cm or 150 cm - they are produced at a width of 300 cm and cut to size later.

  • Pots full of freshly dyed laces

    Step 3

The produced material (also called GREIGE) is then dyed in the chosen colors. A water filtration process in build into the dyeing process to prevent any kind of contamination. The dyeing process is done in accordance with some of the strictest environmental regulations and avoidance of harmful chemicals. The partnership goes back decades.

Office, production hall, cutting department & warehouse are all in one location at Roedermark, Hesse in Germany and have been since the beginning

  • Person measuring a black lace for quality.jpg

    Step 4

The laces are temporarily stored at the cutting department & a small quantity of each is handed over to the quality department. They then thoroughly check the fabric in all ways imaginable. Starting with measuring if the intended width and design size is reached, looking through magnifying glasses to see if there is any mistake, checking the color in an industrially configured light box, sending a piece to a lab to make sure the composition and technical values reach CHANTY's high Standards: No piling! No color bleeding! With correct usage.

    Step 5

As soon as the lace fabrics receive the quality department's stamp of approval and pass the lab tests, they are rolled over to the cutting machines & tables. This means: Now the laces will each be cut to intended design width. If the lace is designed to be 15 cm, then every 15 cm there is a line of tulle that will be cut away in a combination of machine and hand cutting to get the most beautiful edges. After cutting, the laces are rolled up by hand for storage. During the rolling process a visual inspection of all laces takes place & if anything is noticed that place will be marked & noted on an inspection protocol.

    Step 6

The laces are then rolled over to the warehouse. A small quantity of each lace is held back as quality sample and for taking pictures! The CHANTY warehouse is located directly beside the cutting department. We keep the transportation routes as short as possible! Once arrived in the warehouse the lace fabrics are packed into packages or bags, depending on the width & quantity. From there on, they are either prepared for shipment or stored for future shipment.
